Valentine's Day is all about hearts and love. Let your little one show their affection by creating heart-shaped crayons to give to their Valentines. This craft requires the help of an adult and will take 1 or 2 hours to complete.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Old crayon pieces
  • Heart-shaped cup cake tin
  • Flat baking sheet
  • Tin foil
  • Oven
  • Scrap paper

Step1
Gather crayon pieces. Remove the wrappers and discard the paper.
Step2
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
Step3
Fill each heart mold with crayon pieces. Break large crayon pieces to fit entirely in the mold.
Step4
Line a flat cookie sheet with tin foil. Set the heart tin on the cookie sheet.
Step5
Place both pans in the oven. Bake the crayon pieces for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are melted.
Step6
Remove the pans from the oven, using oven mitts. Let the crayons set until the wax has hardened and they are no longer warm.
Step7
Smooth out rough edges of the crayon by rubbing them on a piece of scrap paper.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut 3-inch circles from red paper and tape the crayons to the center. Write a Valentine message around the outside of the heart.
  • Write fun phrases on the paper such as, "Have a colorful Valentine's Day" or "You melt my heart, Valentine."
  • The pan and wax will be hot when it comes out of the oven. Keep it out of the reach of children until the wax is completely cooled.
