How to Use a Straw

There are many uses for a straw beyond sipping a drink. Straws are so versatile, you can use them for school projects, noise makers or fun toys.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Use a straw to sip your drink. This helps you drink it more slowly and also keeps your teeth from coming in contact with the ice in the glass. If you're drinking a beverage such as iced tea or coffee, the straw will prevent the liquid from staining your teeth.
Step2
Stir your drink with your straw. A spoon is not always handy, and a straw is sturdy enough not to break while stirring most drinks.
Step3
Use a straw in your next school project. Straws can fit together to make squares and other forms. Straws also come in different colors. Ask your teacher about using straws in projects.
Step4
Make noise with a straw by blowing into it. Another option is to poke a few holes in the straw and then experiment by holding your fingers over some of the holes while blowing into the straw as if it were a flute.
Step5
Tear the paper carefully at the top of the straw and remove it from one end only. Now when one of the kids gets out of line, place the open end in your mouth and blow hard. The paper will gently hit the offending child and get his attention. You can also make playful blowguns that your children can play with. Don't let them put any hard or sharp objects, such as pins, in their makeshift blowguns.
Step6
Blow bubbles in your drink with your straw by placing the end of the straw in the drink and blowing into the other end of the straw. This produces no useful effect except to entertain your younger kids with bubbles and funny noises.
