How to Make Coffee Can Stilts
Bad weather makes moms look around the house searching for something to keep the kids happy and quiet. Crafting is a great activity, and it is even better if the kids can create something they can play with later. Coffee can stilts are fun to make and fun to use.
Things You'll Need
- 2 coffee cans
- Rope
- Awl or nail
- Hammer
- Scissors or knife
- Paint, stickers, construction paper and markers (optional)
Instructions

1
Pick 2 cans that are the same height and width. Make sure the cans are empty, washed and dried.
-
2
Turn the cans on their sides. Using a hammer and awl (or a nail), poke a hole on opposite sides of each can. Position the holes close to the bottom of the can.
-
-
3
Measure how much rope is needed to go from the bottom of your child's foot to your child's hand. Cut the length of rope to twice that measurement.
-
4
Thread the ends of the ropes through the holes in the can. Tie the ends of the rope together, inside the can. The rest of the rope should go from the can up to child's hand in a loop that the child can hold onto.
-
5
Decorate the cans with construction paper, markers, paint and stickers.
-
6
Race, dance or just walk around the house on these homemade stilts.
