How to Layer Images in PowerPoint
You can create an interesting effect on a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation slide by layering images. Do this by using the image shortcuts menu to determine the order in which you will layer these images. Follow the steps below to layer images in your PowerPoint presentation.

Start Microsoft PowerPoint and open an existing presentation that contains the images you want to layer. Another option is to start a blank presentation and insert at least two images that you can layer.

Right-click on the image that you wish to appear at the back of the slide or underneath all the other images.

Click on "Order" from the shortcut menu and choose "Send to Back" to send the image to the back of all the other images.

Right-click on the image you want to put on the top layer.

Choose "Order" from the shortcut menu that appears and choose "Bring to Front" to make sure that this image stays on top of all the other images.

Select any other images individually and right-click on them to bring up the shortcut menu.

Select "Order" from the shortcut menu and choose "Bring Forward" or "Send Backward" to determine the rest of the order for your images.

Insert images into a PowerPoint presentation by choosing the "Insert" menu, pointing to "Picture" and then choose the method that you want to use to insert images into your PowerPoint presentation.
You must have at least two images on the same slide in your PowerPoint presentation in order to layer them.

this article is erroneous--it talks about stacking, not layers. layering is a completely different concept. should be changed to "stacking"
