How to Add Texture to a PowerPoint Shape

Once you have added a shape to your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, you can fill the shape with a solid color, or create an even more interesting look by filling it with a texture. There are many textures to choose from, or you can download a texture and apply it to your shape. Follow the steps below to add texture to your PowerPoint shape.

      Start Microsoft PowerPoint and open an existing presentation that has a shape that you want to add some texture to.

      Click the shape you want to add texture to.

      Open the Drawing toolbar by choosing the "View" menu, point to "Toolbars" and click "Drawing," if there is not a checkmark in front of it. If there is a checkmark, then your Drawing toolbar is already open.

      Click the arrow before the "Fill Color" button. The "Fill Color" button is represented by the picture of a pouring paint can.

      Select the "Fill Effects" option to open the dialog box. Click on the "Texture" tab at the top to display all of the textures that you can add to your shape.

      When you have chosen the texture that is right for your shape, click the "OK" button to close the dialog box and fill your shape with the selected texture.

  • You can add a shape by clicking on "AutoShapes" on your drawing toolbar and then selecting a category.
