How to Change Bullet Styles in PowerPoint

When you start a new presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint, you will be given either default bullets or bullets that go along with the design you have chosen for your presentation. You can get a whole new look for your presentation by changing the current style of your bullet or even importing a picture that will become a bullet. Here's how.

      Start Microsoft PowerPoint and open a presentation from your files that contains bullets, or start a blank presentation and create a list that you can use to apply different bullet styles.

      Select the list you wish to change and click and drag over the entire list. If you wish to change all of the bullets in your presentation, select the list on the slide master.

      Choose the "Format" menu and click on "Bullets and Numbering" to bring up the dialog box, and click on the "Bulleted" tab so you can change the bullet style.

      Click on the predefined bullet style you would like to apply to your list.

      Change the size of the bullet by setting the percentage of size compared to the text using the "Size" text box. Modify the color of the bullet by using the "Color" dropdown menu.

      Click on the "Picture" button to choose a picture for a bullet, either from the PowerPoint library or from your own file using the "Import" button. Alternatively, you can use the "Customize" button to choose a symbol for your bullets.

      Press "OK" to close the "Bullets and Numbering" dialog box and change the selected bullets to the bullet style you have just chosen.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can access the slide master by choosing the "View" menu, pointing to "Master" and clicking on "Slide Master."
