A CD box picture frame is a picture frame made from a CD jewel case. These CD picture frames are easy to make and very inexpensive. When completed, the frame looks like acrylic picture frames available in most department stores. Making CD box picture frames is a good way to recycle those old CD jewel cases.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 clear CD jewel case
  • 1 sheet construction paper
  • Photo
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  1. Step 1

Remove the lid of the CD case. Pull the side tabs away from the bottom to remove the lid.

  2. Step 2

Turn the bottom of the CD case upside down. This gives you a flat base that will eventually hold your picture.

  3. Step 3

Replace the lid onto the case backward. Push the sides you removed in step 1 back into the bottom of the case. You now have the bottom of the jewel case facing down and the lid of the jewel case standing up vertically, with the plastic tabs on the lid facing backward.

  4. Step 4

Place your picture on the construction paper. Trace a square around the picture on the back of the construction paper. Place the jewel case lid over the construction paper and trace the lid's shape.

  5. Step 5

Cut out the traced pattern of the jewel case lid. Add 1/2 to 1 inch around the traced pattern of the picture. Cut it out. This construction paper is the mat around the picture. Any color of construction paper works. Choose a color that brings out the tones in your photo.

  6. Step 6

Tape the picture to the back of the construction paper mat. Place the picture into the lid of the jewel box between the plastic tabs and the plastic front of the CD box. The plastic tabs hold the picture in place.
