Place card holders are small, decorative pieces that display cards with people's names on them. Place cards are used at weddings, banquets and other gatherings to help the guests find their assigned seats at their table. Make these wire place card holders for any occasion to go along with any decorative theme. They are effective and simple to make.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 18-gauge wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Pliers
  • 1- to 2-inch tall decorative base
  • Drill with small bit
  • Hot-glue sticks and hot-glue gun
  1. Step 1

Purchase a small, decorative base. The bases may be basic wooden blocks or metal circles. Consider using small items that match the event's theme. For example, if you have a Las Vegas or poker-themed party, use two dice glued together, one on top of the other. Another idea is to use small, decorative bells or candle holders for weddings or anniversary parties.

  2. Step 2

Bend the end of the wire into a bull's-eye-shaped circle. It needs to be a spiral with many interior loops. Leave 3 to 4 inches of wire unbent for the stem of the place card holder. Use pliers to hold the end of the wire while you bend it. Another option is to use a heart or star shape instead of a spiral. Use the same process, but create smaller hearts or stars instead.

  3. Step 3

Trim the end of the wire so the place card is the appropriate height. Most wire place card holders are 4 to 5 inches tall. Allow 1/2 inch of wire to be placed into the base.

  4. Step 4

Drill a small hole in the middle of a solid place card holder's base. If you are using a candle holder or a base that is not solid, wrap the wire around the candle holder or the base to hold it in place.

  5. Step 5

Add a few drops of hot glue into the hole you drilled in step 4. Place the wire into the hole. Allow the glue to dry. Remove any excess glue that seeps out the top of the base.
