Things You'll Need:
- 18-gauge wire cut 1 foot in length
- 1 large bead with hole large enough to fit 2 pieces of wire
- Ring mandrel or dowel rod the size of the ring
- Needle-nose pliers
- Wire cutters
-
Step 1
Place the dowel rod or mandrel in the center of the length of wire. Find mandrels at jewelry supply or craft stores. Find dowel rods at hardware or craft stores.
-
Step 2
Wrap the wire around the dowel or mandrel twice. Make sure the wraps are tight so they leave you with long, straight, even wire lengths on both sides.
-
Step 3
Thread the bead onto both ends of the wire. Slide the bead all the way down until it is flush with the wires wrapped around the dowel rod. Slide the wires off the dowel rod.
-
Step 4
Bend the straight wires across the beads at a 90-degree angle. This holds the beads in place. Use the needle-nose pliers to make the 90-degree angle.
-
Step 5
Twist the wires around the top of the bead to make the spiral. Start with a small circle with one wire and then tightly push the other wire around the first one. Continue until you have the spiral you desire.
-
Step 6
Press firmly against the spiral to keep it in place. Take one of the wires and wrap it around the two wires that were bent around the dowel rod. Repeat on the other side until the bead is secured in place. Cut off any excess wire and tuck the ends of the wire into the underside of the ring.
