Step 1
Drive the boat down the launch ramp. This can be tricky, so use your side mirrors and look over your right shoulder to peer out the back window. Ask a friend to be a spotter to make sure you stop before the stern hangs over the water.
-
Step 2
Ask the spotter to double- and triple-check that the drain plug is secure. If no spotter is available, then place the vehicle in park with the emergency brake on and check the drain plug. This is very important to do before placing the boat in the water.
-
Step 3
Remove the tie-down straps completely off the boat and trailer. This will prevent a snag.
-
Step 4
Have someone hold onto the lines while unlocking the ratchet on the retrieval winch. Remove the pins that may prevent an outboard motor from tipping down.
-
Step 5
Back the trailer down the launch ramp until the wheels are completely in the water. If the ramp ends before the wheels are submerged, it is okay to stop as well.
-
Step 6
Launch the boat off the trailer by pushing it off. Be sure to hold tight to the ropes so the boat doesn't escape. Tie the boat to a nearby dock for safety.
-
Step 7
Park the vehicle and trailer in a safe location. Get into the boat and have a good time.
