How to Do an Access 2007 Update Query
Access 2007 is a database program created by the Microsoft Corporation. It is an important part of the Microsoft office suite because it allows users to effectively track items, make professional reports and share information. Update queries allow users to update data in a set of forms or records. Doing a update query in Access 2007 only takes a few minutes when you have the correct information.

Back up your information before you began. This allows you to restore the information if something goes wrong. To back up, click on the Office icon on the top of the Access window and choose "Manage." Select "Backup Database" to continue. A "Save" window appears and allows you to save the database as a backup.

Disable the query blocker. Access automatically has a query blocker on. To disable it, choose the "Options" tab on the tool bar. The "Microsoft Office Security Options" window then appears. Click "Enable" in the query section. Chose "OK" to continue.

Open the database that needs to be updated. Do this by choosing "Open" from the "File" menu.

Click the "Create" tab and then chose "Other Group." Click "Query Design" to open and start the query.

Select the tables you want to update in the window. Click the "Add" button then choose "Close."

Double-click on the fields or the sections you want to update. This brings the fields or sections into the query window.

Add fields into the database. Add all the fields in a table quickly by double-clicking the asterisk (*) in the assets window. A figure opens that shows the query design grid with all the fields added. To add fields one at a time, choose the field from the assets window by clicking the field name twice.

Update your database by clicking the "Update" tab in the "Query Type" list under the "Design" tab. Find the field you want to change. Type your change criteria in the update row.

Click the "Design" tab and then choose "Results." Click on "Run" to activate the update query.

Tips & Warnings
An update query does not allow you to delete files, records or database. The delete query deletes those items for you.
