Worksheets and workbooks are two different things in Excel. A workbook is a file made up of worksheets. A worksheet is a spreadsheet. It's like having a notebook for any subject--one page is a worksheet--all the pages are a workbook. To modify a worksheet in Excel read the following.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine what you need to modify. You have just received correspondence from some of your friends that have changed their address. You now need to update their information in your workbook.

  2. Step 2

Open your worksheet and find the information that needs to be modified.

  3. Step 3

Click on "Edit" and "Find and Replace". When the box appears type in the first or last name of the person you need to locate in the "Find" box and click ok.

  4. Step 4

Let Excel find and take you to the information.

  5. Step 5

Select the columns that need to be updated. Fill in the new street, city, state and zip code with the new information.

  6. Step 6

Decide if you need to add more information. If your friends have included their phone number in the new information that they sent you, but you haven't put in a column for phone numbers, you can add this column now.

  7. Step 7

Add the new column. Go to the title row and type in a heading such as phone. You can then go back to the row you were in and add the phone number that you have just received.

  8. Step 8

Continue to add new information, by adding new columns or rows to the information that is already there. This is all it takes to modify your worksheet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget to save the information after you modify your worksheet.
  • You never have to retype any information that doesn't need modification.
  • You can add any new contacts at the bottom of your data in your worksheet and then sort the data by whatever column you want--such as last name.
