A coaster is a small, flat object placed under drinks to keep the table below protected from the sweat of the drinks. Greeting card coasters are made by recycling your favorite greeting cards into decorative coasters for your home. Personalize these coasters and make them any size you desire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 sheet of cork
  • Ruler
  • Laminating sheets
  • Greeting cards
  • Craft knife
  • Sandpaper
  1. Step 1

Measure and cut the cork sheets into 4-inch square pieces. These are the bottoms of the coaster and are used as a template to cut the cards.

  2. Step 2

Cut the greeting cards to fit the 4-by-4 inch template. Position the card so the picture or the message is centered in the middle. Use the craft knife to make the edges straight.

  3. Step 3

Place the greeting card onto the cork board. Cut off any extra that hangs over the side of the cork.

  4. Step 4

Sand the corners of the cork board to make them smooth or rounded.

  5. Step 5

Apply two layers of the laminate sheeting over the greeting card and cork sheet to protect the greeting card. This also adheres the card to the cork board.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use photos, fabric, calendars or other memorable items to make coasters using the same process.
  • Personalize the coasters by writing on the card before the laminate sheeting has been applied. Allow the ink to dry before applying the laminate sheeting.
  • Make the coasters out of wedding invitations as a gift for newly-married couples.
