Step 1
Read up on baby sign language before you start class. As many new moms discover, it can be hard to focus entirely on the instructor when you've got your little one in tow. Having a basic working knowledge of a few signs and the philosophy of the language will help you and your baby relax and enjoy the course.
-
Step 2
Be friendly. Introduce yourself and your baby to the other mothers. Baby sign language class is a great way to meet other parents with babies in the same age or stage as yours. Plus, having an informal study partner can make class exercises more fun to practice outside the seminar.
-
Step 3
Bring a bottle or snack or any nursing gear you prefer to travel with. Many baby sign language classes often include a snack as an activity because the desire to eat prompts many babies to use the "nurse" or "eat" or "more" signs for the first time. If your class doesn't include a snack in the program, you still want some food on hand in case your baby becomes hungry.
-
Step 4
Stay attentive during class. While baby sign language classes are usually social in nature, you should keep chatting to a minimum so you can focus on the instructor's comments. Making a playdate before or after class is the best way to network with other moms while still focusing on learning baby sign language.
