This design for a rhinestone and floral hair pin is a retro, 1950s-style hair pin. Rhinestones are added to a flower to make it dressy. This hair pin is a great project for small girls as it is easy to make and the supplies are inexpensive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 silk flower
  • Wire cutters
  • 1 ribbon, 3 inches long that matches the color of the flower
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • 1 hair pin or clip
  • Rhinestones
  • 1 toothpick
  • Rhinestone or craft glue
  1. Step 1

Cut the wire stem from the silk flower with the wire cutters. Some silk flowers have plastic at the base of the flower connecting them to the stem. If your flower has plastic, remove the stem and cut the plastic connector off of the back. Be careful not to damage the flower.

  2. Step 2

Flatten the flower. Use your hands to force the flower to lay flat.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the ribbon around the hair clip or pin. Make sure the ribbon is tight. Hot glue the edges of the ribbon to the clip or pin and then glue the flower to the hair pin. Allow it to dry. Hot glue dries quickly. Be careful not to burn yourself with the glue or the glue gun.

  4. Step 4

Pick a design for the placement of the rhinestones on your flower. The most common design is to place darker rhinestones in the middle and a few other rhinestones in different areas on the petals. Add as many or as few rhinestone as you like.

  5. Step 5

Use the toothpick to secure each rhinestone to the flower with a dot of hot glue. Place a rhinestone on top of each dot of hot glue. Continue using this method until the flower is decorated to your liking.
