A rhinestone butterfly is a shiny accessory ready to be added to bracelets, necklaces, rings or earrings to add a little style. Make rhinestone butterflies any size using any color of rhinestone. These butterflies are made out of a wire frame with the rhinestones added at the end. Enhance the jewelry and accessories by adding a rhinestone butterfly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Craft wire
  • Solder and soldering iron
  • Rhinestones
  • Stud covers
  1. Step 1

Draw or print a basic butterfly shape in the size you need. This shape needs to be an outline with no detail of the butterfly. The most common butterfly shape has rounded edges however there are some butterfly shapes with 90-degrees pointed edges.

  2. Step 2

Cut and bend your craft wire to make the wings. Butterfly wings are a mirror image from one wing to the other. Craft wire is easy to bend. Shape the butterfly using your hands. To make 90-degree angles, you need a pair of pliers to make the corner edges.

  3. Step 3

Make the body. The body is a long oval that connects the two wings. It must be rounded at the bottom with a slight point at the top.

  4. Step 4

Form the antenna. The antenna are two pieces of wire that come out from the top of the body and swirl around at the end. They resemble hooks. These are mirror images, like the wings.

  5. Step 5

Lay the wings, body and antenna on a flat surface. Solder the pieces together in their correct position to make the frame.

  6. Step 6

Place the rhinestones in the stud covers. Stud covers slide onto the back of the rhinestones to give them a metal backing. This allows them to be soldered to the frame.

  7. Step 7

Decorate a frame with rhinestones. Solder two small rhinestones at the end of the antenna. Depending on size, solder three or more rhinestones along the butterfly's body. Decorate the wings by soldering the edges of the rhinestones to the frame as you go.
