How to Eat Vegan on the Road

Eating right on the road is hard. For vegans, eating becomes a challenge of much larger proportions. It is often an issue of having no choices at all. Vegans must take additional precautions when planning a trip as it can mean the difference between a fun trip and a nightmare. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pack non-perishable items. Anything with a quickly arriving expiration date is not a good choice. Choose items that last a long time and can be finished in one sitting. If there is a preference for one particular item, pack it in one-serving bags.

    • 2

Include standard vegan snacks. Non-dairy milk, juice, fruit, applesauce or organic instant meal packets are good choices. Make a visit to the local health food store and stock up prior to leaving for your trip. Be sure to refer to step one and set up all snacks in single-serving sizes.

    • 3

Do some research on the final destination, as well as any stops along the way. The Internet is a good place to start. Search for "vegan" and the destination city. It would also be good to just type fruits and vegetables and the destination city into the search engine of your choice.

    • 4

Ask the locals. They will know where to find that type of cuisine, and in most places, they are glad to help. Be broad in the conversation and talk about alternatives to meat first. Narrow down to the specifics of what you desire, if necessary. This will help get to point and hopefully a good vegan breakfast, lunch or dinner.
