How to Host a Craft Party

Hosting a craft party is a great way to share your hobby with friends, whatever kind of craft it is. It can also be very productive, since you will create decorations for your home or items to give as gifts while helping your friends do the same. Here are some ideas for hosting a craft party of your own.

1. Get craft ideas from books and magazines. Consider choosing a craft item that you have made before and are familiar with. Talk to your group in advance to find out what kind of items they would like to create and what their skill levels are. Have a few different craft choices for them to choose from, something easy for those who haven't ever done crafts before and something more experienced for your veteran crafting friends.

2. Send out invitations. You can use email invitations for a more informal party. Choose graphics and colors that match your craft theme as a teaser to entice people to RSVP and come.

3. Make the crafts before the party. You will have samples to show your guests and will be able to help your guests through each step.

4. Prepare a flat, clean surface with enough room for everyone to work. Make sure each guest has a comfortable chair.

5. Purchase supplies, with enough for each guest plus a few extras. Divide the materials and place them at each guest's seat. Make sure you have at least two of any tool that must be shared. Print out several copies of the directions and pass them out to each guest.

6. Play festive music or movies to set the mood, but make sure to keep it low enough to encourage and not hamper conversation.

7. Serve a quick meal, like a sandwich buffet, that can be eaten before the crafting starts. Make easy snacks that people can eat while working. If you have a Christmas theme, get into the spirit by serving cookies, spiced cider and eggnog. Serve flavored coffees and teas. Wrap up the evening with a celebratory toast with wine or champagne when the crafts are completed.
