How to Be a Survivor

At some point in everyone's life they will, unfortunately, experience some kind of crisis. Whether it's a natural disaster, emotional pain or physical loss such as the death of a loved one, these difficult periods require the ability to be a strong survivor. Knowing the characteristics of a survivor is the key to practice these skills.

Step1
Have a good attitude. Even when life isn't dealing a great hand you've still got to stay positive no matter what. Be optimistic about your situation. Believe in yourself.
Step2
Be adaptable. Change isn't easy under the best of circumstances. Force yourself to become willing to change and find something good about it. You're responsible for the effort not the outcome.
Step3
Redirect fear and channel it into courage. When faced in survival situations, fear can easily take over and ruin your chances of making it. Use that negative energy and practice channeling it toward doing something courageous to achieve a better outcome.
Step4
Maintain a sense of humor. A good sense of humor goes a long way in stressful situations. To be a survivor in some instances just requires the ability to laugh off what would seemingly be awful.
Step5
Turn to a higher power. Many people believe in something or someone to give them strength. When the need arises ask for help from a greater resource. Just being able to look outside of your crisis and feel hopeful can make the difference of whether or not you'll survive it. Have faith.
Step6
Draw support from others. Look to others for help especially if someone has survived what you're going through. When we can't find the means within ourselves to survive believe that someone else believes you'll get through it.
Step7
Make a plan. A good survivor has a plan and then a back-up plan. If plan A doesn't work than try plan B. The point to being a successful survivor is to never give up.
