When you're looking for a bird for your suburban home, you have more options than you would in an apartment. Suburban homes make good homes for birds, as they provide the comforts of living in quieter areas while giving them the things they need. Follow these steps to find a bird for a suburban house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take into consideration how close your neighbors are to you before you buy a bird. There are several breeds of birds that shriek when left home alone or when they're excited. This can become very frustrating to your neighbors.

  2. Step 2

Measure the area in which you are going to keep your bird. Make sure it is an area where the family frequently gathers as birds don't like to be alone. Determine the type of bird you are going to get by the size cage you can easily accommodate.

  3. Step 3

Find a bird that can easily stretch his wings in your suburban house. Some birds such as large parrots like to spend a majority of the time out of their cage and need to be able to fly easily.

  4. Step 4

Consider how particular you are about the tidiness of your house. Some birds are extremely messy both in and out of the cage. If you are particular you may want to consider a bird such as a finch or a parakeet as they aren't as messy as some of the larger birds.

  5. Step 5

Choose a bird whose habits you can deal with in your house. Some birds chew things as much as puppies, especially parrots, so if you have a lot of valuables, avoid these birds for their safety and your sanity.
