If you have a concept or product that you want to sell and love to speak publicly, then you can combine the two. You can use public speaking for marketing your product or service. It isn't difficult and it's virtually a free form of advertising.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Develop an entertaining speech. You want to have a speech that is related to whatever you are marketing, but not so overbearing that it screams advertising.

  2. Step 2

Find organizations that want speakers. There are a lot of service organizations that require a speaker each week. If you have expertise in an area, let them know. You are a great benefit to those trying to locate speakers.

  3. Step 3

Bring brochures about your product or bring the product itself. If you've just written a book, but also are a great inspirational speaker, bring the book.

  4. Step 4

Allow the audience to ask questions. Make yourself approachable, both during the speech and after. People want to buy something from someone who they like, and someone who they feel likes them. Spending time after meetings sometimes sells your item faster than television ads, because you are right there and people are impulsive buyers.

  5. Step 5

Get a list of names, phone numbers and addresses. If you have a product that isn't a quick sale, you can keep in contact with the audience. Many speakers are now passing out lists for email addresses. Gathering an email newsletter list gives you a free source of potential customers.

  6. Step 6

Make it a two-fer. This means that you can get two incomes for the energy, time and money of one act. If you believe that you can command an audience, rent a place and charge for tickets. People tend to respect the authority more if they have to pay for the information.

  7. Step 7

Check out colleges, schools and places where your expertise is taught. These are ready-made candidates for your speech and product promotion.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to polish your speaking skills, join Toastmasters. This also provides you with an audience to promote to, besides practicing your speaking skills.
