If you've ever wanted to live the life of a rock star by living vicariously through a computer game, Shady O'Grady's Rising Star is for you. Start a band and go from unknowns to music legends in this PC role-playing game.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Create a band. Begin by creating yourself, or whoever you want to create for the leader of your band. Then, select your band's genre and give it a name.
Step2
Recruit other musicians for your band. Drive your van to a music store and look at the available musicians in your genre. That person's compatibility with other members of your band will be shown by color—green meaning high compatibility and red meaning no compatibility.
Step3
Make money by doing odd jobs around town while you're still struggling musicians. As you drive around, you'll see "Help Wanted" signs in front of several businesses. Go inside for more information about the job; it usually involves making deliveries around town or picking things up for them. You can also landscape some of the parks in town by driving up to it and selecting "Landscape" when the option becomes available.
Step4
Attend shows at venues. By doing this, you can gain reputation with the venue and increase your chances of playing a gig there. You can also gain reputation with the band that is performing, which can also potentially lead to future gigs.
Step5
Write some songs. You can do this from your home or any hotel room. Select the band members who will collaborate on the song together, enter a title for the song and begin writing. You will play a matching mini-game to determine the quality of the song.
Step6
Book gigs by going to venues and looking at their calendars. If they have a date that is colored blue, that means they are offering the date to you. You can click on it, view the details and either accept or decline the invitation. Then, go to that venue the day of the gig to play your show.
Step7
Hire a manager once you've gained some popularity in your city. He will be able to book higher-quality gigs for you, find endorsement deals and even get you a record deal.
Step8
Record albums, sell T-shirts, tour the country and make lots of money as you become more and more famous.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when you're driving your van around town. If you run into buildings or trees, you will damage it, and it will eventually need costly repairs. This can be a nightmare for a struggling band that has to do odd jobs for income.
