A class action lawsuit is when one or more persons file a lawsuit against a person or company with regard to defective merchandise or services. The purpose of a class action lawsuit is to have the group of people who were affected to be represented in one single lawsuit. The outcome of the class action lawsuit will affect everyone represented. Follow these steps to join a class action lawsuit.

  1. Step 1

    Locate the law firm that is heading up the class action lawsuit. There may be more than one that is involved so be sure to find at least one that is actively pursuing the company or person you want to sue. You can contact them and ask to join the class action lawsuit.

    Log on to Class Action World to search for the specific class action lawsuit you'd like to join. They have a complete list of class action lawsuits that have been filed. You will need to register a username and password, then you can search their database for contact information to join a class action lawsuit.

  3. Step 3

    Ask your friends if they have heard of the class action lawsuit. If your friends were affected they too may want to join the class action lawsuit.

  4. Step 4

    Advertise that you are searching for information regarding joining the class action lawsuit. You can advertise on the Internet, such as craigslist or MySpace, or in the newspaper.

  5. Step 5

    Search public records. You will be able to gain a lot of information regarding any lawsuits on file with the court systems. The public information will give you names of persons involved and their representation.
