Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
See your Judge Advocate General (JAG). This person is basically a military lawyer. The JAG can inform you of adoption laws and policies with regard to military adoption and benefits.
Step2
Visit the family services center on the military base if you are stationed on one. Here you will find information about support groups for adoptive families. You will be able to ask questions about military adoption benefits.
Step3
Contact the National Military Family Association. This agency can advise you on information to get your adoption fees paid for by the military. These benefits are typically paid for after the adoption is complete, so you will need to pay any required fees and get reimbursed for some of them by the military.
Step4
Enroll your adopted child in the child development programs. This is child care either part or full time provided by the military. Some of the centers also offer drop-in services. Only certain facilities are approved by the military so be sure to choose one off of the list provided.
Step5
Sign your adopted child up for military medical benefits. You can contact the Tricare Information Center at (888) 363-2273 for information to obtain military adoption benefits.
