How to Install an Express Card Module in a Laptop
The Express Card is a new notebook expansion format that replaces the older PCMCIA Card Bus technology. They're both made by the same company, but the Express Card offers faster data transfer rates, higher energy efficiency and a lower cost of production than the PCMCIA card. They're also incredibly easy to install, especially on a PC that's running Windows Vista.

1
Remove the Express Card module from its packaging. Many cards come in plastic molding that's remarkably difficult to cut, so be careful not to bend or break the card as you remove it from its case.
-
2
Turn your notebook on or wake it up if it's in Standby Mode or Hibernation.
-
-
3
Remove the dummy card that's installed in your notebook's Express Card Slot. Simply press the small black button next to the slot opening once in order to pop the ejector out, then press it again in order to dislodge the blank card.
-
4
Insert your Express Card module into the Express Card slot. The thinner end goes in first. Also, make sure the card is right-side up before inserting it.
-
5
Give your operating system a few moments to recognize the new hardware before proceeding with the installation.
-
6
Insert the driver installation CD that came with your Express Card module. Run the installation program it contains and follow its instructions in order to install the appropriate drivers for your card.
-
7
Restart your system to finalize the installation process.
-
8
Check your card's functionality to make sure it works like it's supposed to work. If your notebook doesn't recognize the card or it's not working like you expected it to, consult its documentation for troubleshooting advice.
