Make sure you have an Xbox Live gold account and sign into your profile. If you only have a silver account for Xbox Live, you will not be able to play NASCAR 08 online for the Xbox 360. You can upgrade your silver account to a gold account with an annual fee. If you have a gold account, your Xbox Live may sign in automatically or you may have to sign in when you start the game.

Step 2
Choose a quick match to get racing without having to set a ton of parameters. You can choose to play in a ranked match and pick which series you want to race in, or you can leave these options set to "Any" to get in a session quicker. In a quick match, you will be added to the next available public NASCAR 08 game.

Pick the custom match to pick the parameters for the race you want to participate in. You can choose options like playing in a ranked match, what level your competition is, what series you participate in, which track type you will race on, the race length and more. The custom match may take a while to find other people that are looking for the same thing, but it allows the ideal match for you.

Create your own online match in NASCAR 08. This way you can decide exactly what the match will consist of. You can choose if it is a ranked match, what kind of track the race will take place on and more. Your session will be populated with people looking for a quick match or custom match that matches your session.

Hang out in the lobby or practice while you wait. It takes some time for everyone to get into a race, so while you wait you can chat with other players in the lobby. You can also practice while other players are joining the session to get warmed up.
