Step 1
Make sure your game console has a connection to the Internet, either through a phone line or through a wireless or Ethernet connection to your computer network.
-
Step 2
Once connected, sign up for Xbox Live or a similar service, depending on which game console you're using, and give yourself an online name or gamertag.
-
Step 3
Insert the game disk into the console and select "Online Play" or "Play Online." A list of names should appear on the screen. These are all players now online and either already competing or waiting for a challenge.
-
Step 4
Select a name from the list, and ask if the person wants to play. The names are usually followed by a note telling you he or she is available. There should also be an indication next to the name if your possible opponent is set up for voice communication.
-
Step 5
Once the challenge has been accepted, plug in your headset and microphone, and you're set for a gridiron battle. You'll now be able to see everything your opponent does, including his team selection and options for defense and offense.
