Since eBay is a popular website, it's a popular target for scammers who will try to get your information by sending authentic-looking emails. If you've identified a fraudulent eBay email in your inbox, there's more you can do than just ignore it. By notifying eBay, you can make it harder for these scammers to be successful.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com. Makes sure you forward it as inline text and not as an attachment.

  2. Step 2

Keep the subject line the same when you forward the email. You don't need to tell them it's a fraudulent email because you're forwarding it to the email address that is specifically for forwarding such emails.

  3. Step 3

Watch for an automated response from eBay after you send the email. You will get an email shortly after you send the forwarded message indicating that eBay has received it. It will not address your email specifically; it only serves as a purpose to let you know they received it and to thank you for your help in combating fraudulent emails.

  4. Step 4

Delete the email from your account once you know eBay has received the information.

Tips & Warnings
  • Forward a message to eBay if you have any doubts about its authenticity. It's better to be on the safe side and help eBay combat the problem.
  • Don't click on any of the links in a fraudulent email. Even if you know it's a spoof email and you're not planning on entering your information, it's best to not click, because some of these sites contain spyware that will give you other problems.
