Poking someone on Facebook is a simple way to let someone know that you are thinking about them. You can use the poke feature to say hello to a friend, flirt with a stranger or just let someone know that you are still around and using Facebook.

From Quick Guide: Social Networking Sites
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log in to your account on the Facebook home page. If you don't have a Facebook account, you can sign up for one at the Facebook home page.

  2. Step 2

Search for your friend. In the search field on the left side of the page, type in the name of the Facebook friend who you wish to poke.

  3. Step 3

Locate your friend's profile from the list of people that comes up from your search. People who you are Facebook friends will be listed first, followed by people in your network and then random people that match your search parameters.

  4. Step 4

Poke your friend by clicking on the link that says "Poke him!" to the right side of your friend's profile.

  5. Step 5

Confirm this action by clicking "OK" in the pop-up box that will appear asking you to confirm that you want to poke this person.

  6. Step 6

Await your reply. The next time that your friend logs in to Facebook, they will be notified that you poked them.

on 3/3/2009 Does this only come up if you're looking at a friends? My profile doesn't have that option, but everyone else does :(. So does that mean no one can "Poke" me?
