Although it is thought that Henry Ford invented the automobile and the assembly line, he did not. What Ford did was change the affordability of an automobile for the average man. With Ford's perfection of the assembly line, cars were produced in an affordable manner. Between 1909 and 1927 Ford Motor Company built more than 15 million Model-T cars. A restored Model-T can be as cheap as $9,000.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research to find the best way to save money. The Internet and motor news magazines will help you calculate just how many thousands you will need.

  2. Step 2

Read motor news magazines and study the advertisements for parts, tools, suppliers and clubs for the 1927 Ford Model-T Runabout that you want to restore.

  3. Step 3

Find a place big enough for the Model-T that will hold tools, parts and still have enough room for more than one mechanic at a time.

  4. Step 4

Search for a good condition 2-bay garage--you want to be able to work on your restoration in all kinds of weather.

  5. Step 5

Learn about cars--their body, engine, wheels and suspensions. Restoration of an older car is easier than the repairs on newer cars.

  6. Step 6

Develop a plan for restoration of your Model-T--divide the project into sub-assemblies.

  7. Step 7

Exhale--do not think about the restoration project as a whole car project--you will intimidate yourself.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prepare to spend at least 1,500 man hours in the restoration of the Model-T with only one person involved.
  • You may decide not to spend the hours and money on restoration and buy a Model-T that has already been restored.
  • When working under the body of a car, make sure the car is secured and will not fall.
