How to See a Phrenologist

Phrenology is the study of the contour of the head as related to human characteristics. A phrenologist collects data and analyzes it to determine personal traits. Learn how to find a phrenologist in your area and what to expect on your first visit.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a phrenologist in your area. Phrenology is not highly practiced today. Search your area for people who practice alternative medicine by looking in the Yellow Pages of your phone book or asking friends and family for a referral. Your primary care physician may also be able to assist you.

    • 2

Make an appointment with a phrenologist in your area. Before your appointment, ask about payment procedures so you are prepared.

    • 3

Understand that phrenology associates bumps and indentations on the head with personal characteristics and traits. A phrenologist believes that every organ has a connection to the head. The size of bumps and indentations relates how much a particular organ is used or not used.

    • 4

Expect the phrenologist to measure your head circumference with a measuring tape and an instrument called a craniometer. Answer questions about your background relating to your social, spiritual and emotional life and if you've ever committed a crime.

    • 5

Expect the phrenologist to physically examine your head with his hands. With his fingers, the phrenologist thoroughly examines the surface of the head for bumps and indentations. Recording the data found, the phrenologist compares the data to a phrenological head or chart. These tools show a human head with the corresponding faculties (personality traits) and where the faculties are located.

    • 6

Talk with the phrenologist about the outcome of the exam.
