Instructions

Decide whether to grow out your natural hair without cutting off the relaxed hair immediately or whether to cut off the relaxed hair at the beginning of the transition. If you decide to cut off your relaxed hair you can wear a small afro or twists. The Hair Web website has several styling ideas (see Resources below).

Choose a transition hairstyle that minimizes stress to your hair, is easy for you to maintain and helps you disguise the 2 different hair textures. Braids, extensions, cornrows, twists and straw set are all advisable hairstyles to help with the transition.

    • 3

Condition your hair regularly and frequently. Use alcohol-free and natural conditioners such as the Tui Shea Butter Hair Smoothie from Carolsdaughter or the Black Earth Enhancing Herbal Conditioner from Treasuredlocks.

Use non-chemical relaxers such as BODIpHIER or Baka Beautiful's Natural-Laxer to help reduce the difference in texture between the natural and relaxed hair. Non-chemical relaxers do not permanently straighten the hair, they loosen the kink/curl of the natural hair, making it more manageable.

Consult a professional beautician for transition and product advice. Some stylists specialize in natural hair care and can tell you which styles work best after examining your hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • Minimize breakage by avoiding frequent combing of the hair.

  • Use a wide tooth comb when combing wet hair.

  • Expect some hair breakage if you don't cut off the relaxed hair, especially where the natural hair and relaxed hair meet.

I had alot of success using the products at Mineral Indulgence when I started transitioning. My hair was past my shoulders and I didnt want to have to cut it off to go natural. I used the Kiwi Coconut Hair Smoothie, the Naturally Sulfate Free and the Herbalaxer to help me make a transition without ANY breakage at all. Now my hair is near my waist and people think I am wearing a weave! I really enjoy using these products and would hightly suggest them to anyone with very thick unmanageable hair. I have used many other products before, but Mineral Indulgence is number #1!
