Things You'll Need:
- Flamenco music samples
-
Step 1
Consider the flamenco dance you'll be doing. The length and style will help you determine which music choice you should make. Also think about where you will be performing and if you're solo or with a partner.
-
Step 2
Listen to the key part of flamenco music--the guitar. Often guitars and clapping are the only musical background to a flamenco performance accompanied by occasional shouts to accentuate the steps. Flamenco guitar is even used without the dancing as the music has gained popularity.
-
Step 3
Understand the different styles of flamenco music. Lighthearted music known as "cante chico" is happy and most flamenco dancing is performed to this type of music. One well known singer of this style is Nina de los Peines.
-
Step 4
Use "la voz afilla" music when you need a rough, coarse quality. La Pirinaca is a well known signer of this style and it's commonly associated with the gypsy style of flamenco.
-
Step 5
Select the flamenco compass style when you want music similar to American Jazz. Songs can be sung with or without accompaniment which means the structure of the rhythm can be different. Listen to some examples before selecting your song when using this style.
-
Step 6
Visit websites such as Amazon to listen to samples or various flamenco CDs. Start with flamenco compilations such as the album "Grandes Maestros del Flamenco" if you're unfamiliar. When knowledgeable about music styles, match the music up with what type of flamenco dancing you're planning to do.
