An underwater grinder can be used for cleaning or grinding, and its accessories include nylon and wire brushes and grinding wheels. The wheel guard is an important safety feature that helps contain debris. Most grinders have two handle positions that let the operator reach various angles and positions. A good quality grinder will have a gear motor that allows greater efficiency.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Inspect all the equipment for cracks and defects before submersion.

  2. Step 2

Work with appropriate eye and breathing gear. Debris will surround the operator and it must be vacuumed away rapidly.

  3. Step 3

Check the attached weights on the diver to see if they are enough to maintain a triangular stance at the bottom of the water body.

  4. Step 4

Start the air compressor system. Make sure all hoses are tight and without cracks.

  5. Step 5

Push the grinder forward away from the body when starting the grinder.

  6. Step 6

Run the grinder at operating speed with new mounted wheels for 1 minute before grinding.

  7. Step 7

Give the grinder a good wipe down after use. Saltwater will corrode and ruin equipment in a short period.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test all equipment before you dive.
  • Safety is extremely important when operating underwater equipment. Even experienced divers are at risk.
