From Quick Guide: Work Clothes Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider purchasing clothes to wear to work if the cost is cheaper than to rent clothes for work.

  2. Step 2

Determine what kind of clothes you will need when you decide to rent clothes for work. Find out if your job requires a uniform, a certain color or a certain style. For instance, if you are in the food service industry, you may require a tuxedo shirt with tuxedo pants, or even a chef's uniform. If you only work in that type of industry on occasion, it may be financially advantageous to rent clothes for work instead of purchasing them.

  3. Step 3

Contact or visit uniform rental places to get quotes on the type of work clothes you are interested in renting.

  4. Step 4

Check with your human resources department or general manager to determine that you are getting a rental quote on the correct type and style of uniform.

  5. Step 5

Pay the rental fee when due to avoid penalties on your account when you rent clothes for work.

  6. Step 6

Clean the rental uniform or have the uniform professionally cleaned before returning. It's the responsibility of the renter to make sure the uniform is clean and presentable.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the tax laws for your state about deducting clothing rental expense as a viable tax-deduction.
