How to Put a Liner in a Motorcycle Helmet

Motorcycle helmets are designed to protect the head from injury in an accident. After some time, the liner will fray or rip due to normal wear. The liners in older helmets were glued in. However, today's helmet liners use Velcro or snaps and can be replaced easily.

    Things You'll Need

    • Piece of foam
    • 3M glue
    • Motorcycle helmet liner
    • 1/2" rubber molding
      • 1

Buy a new motorcycle helmet liner. You can get one at any motorcycle shop or via the Internet. Make sure you order the right size for your helmet.

Take out the old liner, clean the inside of the helmet with soapy water. Rinse and let dry.

Replace the foam. Sometimes the foam will dry out and age the liner. Use 3M general trim adhesive to glue a 5-inch round, 1/2-inch thick piece of foam into the top of the helmet. Let it set for at least 5 minutes before putting the liner in.

Center the new liner over the helmet. Push the liner in and snap or Velcro it into place. Smooth out any wrinkles. The motorcycle helmet liner material is hypo-allergenic. If the liner isn't torn, it can be taken out and put in the washing machine. Put a 1/2" rubber molding around the outside of the helmet to hold the liner in place. This also gives the helmet a decorative look.
