Step 1
Browse to the Sryth website and click the link that reads "Create a Free Account." You have to enter some basic login information and register for the game. Once you have that done, you can select "Play Now." The game opens a new browser window so popup blockers may try to stop it.
-
Step 2
Click "Create a New Character" in the play window. You can choose between Pregenerated Characters or Random Character Creation. Pregenerated characters are only available to subscribers (the people that pay money to play). Select "Random Character Generation" to continue.
-
Step 3
Roll your stats by selecting "OK, I'm Ready to Roll." This takes you to the rolling screen. There's a lot of information here but there are a couple of high points. In the Stats Window (furthest to the left) you will find all of your numerical statistics; 20 is maximum for all but Melee Rating and Stamina. The Experience Adjustment Window (lower center) tells you all the bonuses and penalties you have when gaining experience for specific skills; you want all bonuses. The Magic Potential Window (center right) reveals whether you can use magical powers. Agree to use them. You can either accept or reroll your stats. Keep rolling until you get a set that you like, and then click "Accept Stats."
-
Step 4
Chose whether you are male or female. This choice doesn't affect gameplay. Then choose your name. This sends you back to the main page with your new character displayed. Select your character's name to go on to the next leg of creation.
-
Step 5
Pick your skills. You can have up to four skills with 20 points divided however you want among them. Use all four skills, as gaining skills in game is expensive and tricky. All of the skills are used somewhere in the game, but Lore, Horsemanship and Seamanship are used infrequently. Make sure you pick either Weaponry or Unarmed Combat since there is a lot of fighting in the game. Archery is used in several situations and featured heavily in several quests so you should choose it.
-
Step 6
Choose your one power; this is only available if you have magic potential. Nearly all of the powers have an in-combat effect. Outside of combat, Necromany has very few uses. Divination, Elementalism and Illusion are important in numerous situations.
