How to Make a Fire Elementalist in Guild Wars

In Guild Wars, having a good build is everything. Fire Elementalists work well for PvE play in which the monsters are more varied and their skills are imprecise. They're an artillery style class, known for their devastating degens and inflicting spike damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the type of Fire Elementalist you want to play. The two basic styles are up close and ranged. Ranged is safer by far, but up close allows you to use several area-of-effect spells in sequence to devastating effect.

Pick your normal skills. Fire Elementalists are the Guild Wars' equivalent to a cannon and the available skills show this. When playing a ranged elementalist, Meteor Shower, Fireball, Rodgort's Invocation and Firestorm are all good multiple target skills. Up close Fire Elementalists often choose Bed of Coals, Flame Burst, Inferno and Lava Font; these skills all hit multiple targets. Two of them inflict spike damage, and two inflict damage over time.

Choose your Elite Skill. First look over what you already have. For instance, if you have several spells that either cost 20 or more Energy or cause Exhaustion, then you may want to bring Glyph of Energy. Many ranged attackers also like Mind Blast or Searing Flames. Melee range attackers prefer Double Dragon, Savannah Heat or Star Burst.

    • 4

Select your Secondary Profession. Many guides tell you to pick this before your skills, but in the case of a Fire Elementalist, the Secondary Profession is often unimportant, as all of your skills are elementalist. If you have a skill slot or two open, pick something that enhances your ability without using attribute points. Most classes have a select number of skills that are No Attribute. Every Guild Wars version after Prophecies has a wide selection of PvE-only skills, none of which use attributes.

    • 5

Spend your Attribute Points. Maxing out Fire Magic is a given. If you don't have any other attribute using skills, just max Energy Storage as well. If you're using a skill that needs attribute points you may find that dropping Energy Storage to an 11 (one point from maximum) gives you more than enough for your other skills.

Choose equipment that best suits your build. A Superior Rune of Fire Magic on a fire based headpiece, a Minor Rune of Energy Storage, the largest Vigor Rune you can afford and two Runes of Vitae will give you the basic rune set. Survivor Insignias will buff up your hitpoints even more. Consider putting one on each armor piece. You won't need any energy gain runes as your Energy Storage Attribute is so high that you'll rarely need it. Lastly, find a 20/20 wand and focus that specialize in Fire Magic. Even though their chances don't stack, they're each checked for each spell.
