Many people use a lark's head knot to tie something to a ring, such as luggage tags and keys. The knot is easy to tie, but it can get confusing if you do it too quickly. Here's how it's done.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a ring and a small rope. The ring could be the size of a key chain or larger. The rope must fit through the ring, so choose a rope that is comparable in size to the ring.

  2. Step 2

Hold the ring in your left hand. Hold the rope in your right hand. You may have to hold one rope more with your palm while tieing one side or let it hang. However, to start, take both ends in your hands.

  3. Step 3

Loop the shorter end of the rope over the ring, away from your body, and let go of the rope. Move your hand to the right of the ring and grab the rope that you just looped over the ring.

  4. Step 4

Let the long end of the rope dangle. You will only be tying the knot with the shorter right end of the rope.

  5. Step 5

Cross the shorter end of the rope, from the right, over the front of the longer piece and back behind the ring. Pull the rope over the ring and straight down next to the longer end of the rope. It should look like a pretzel around the ring.

  6. Step 6

Pull on both ends of the rope to tighten the lark's head knot.
