1
Cover work surfaces with newspaper or oilcloth. Use a large table to provide enough space to assemble the candles.
-
2
Determine how much wax you need for the mold. Weigh the wax. Add about 50% more as leftover wax to create whipped wax for the candle.
-
-
3
Melt the wax according to the manufacturer's directions, normally at 150 to 175 degrees F. Melt the color blocks in a separate pan. Browns, off-whites, creams, burgundy are the olors to use to make primitive or country style grubby candles.
-
4
Stir the melted color block into the melted wax. Add essential oils, spices or any ingrediant for scent.
-
5
Spray silicone mold release into the mold. Place the wick into the mold. Pour the wax into a mold. Allow it to cool.
-
6
Heat up the leftover wax. Add a little more color. Pour into any sinkholes that formed while the candle cooled. Let the rest cool until it forms a skin on top.
-
7
Whip the wax with a handheld mixer, fork or wire whisk. Dip the ends of the candle in wax and place it on a tray. Spoon the wax over the top of the candle. Allow it to drip down the sides. Use a knife or old paintbrush to apply the whipped wax to the grubby candle. Apply it as if you were frosting a cake.

Decorate the grubby candle with rusty metal items, raffia, homespun ribbon and other country decorations.
