Finding a publisher for a self-help book is much like finding a publisher for any other specific genre. The key is to find publishers who openly accept self-help books. There are several market resources that list the genres of each publisher. Finding those markets and following each publisher's specific requirements is the key to getting a self-help book published.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get the most recent copy of "The Writer's Market" to find the most comprehensive list of book publishers. Study the the index to find the self-help markets. Look through the book publishing section to find the publishers that put out self-help books. Check to see whether they will accept queries.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of the publishers that accept the genre. Call these publishers or visit online to get their most current submission guidelines and contact information.

  3. Step 3

Check the Internet for online publishers who may be willing to purchase the rights to print the book online. Look for self-help websites and query them about the possibility of freelance submissions.

  4. Step 4

Find a self publisher online that will print your book as it is ordered. There are several websites that will print the book and sell it for the price you specify. You are in charge of the marketing for your book, and you receive the sales price minus a publishing fee.
