1
Be focused. Print a copy of the school budget for the next year. Look at the areas where you need a grant. The more specific you are, the better the chances of getting a particular grant.
-
2
Research for grants in the areas in which you need support, according to you school's type and location. National government grants are among the most well-utilized. Visit the Department of Education website for more information on government education grants.

Think local. Ask your local foundations for support. It is often easier and quicker to get local money than national money. This should include your state and county departments of education. Check with your local state department of education for a listing of available grants. Do this at your local school district office as well.
-
4
Assemble a great application packet. Your packet should include all of the required documents, including financial statements, the grant application and proof of certification.
-
5
Diversify your options. Apply for any grant you are eligible for or at least a good number of them. You may get one big grant or enough partial grants to cover the amount you need.
-
6
Ask local businesses and alumni if they will support your institution by matching grants up to a certain amount. For example, a business might pledge to donate up to $1,000 for every dollar you raise in grant money.
