Step 1
Decide on a budget. If this is just a hobby, you may not want to search thrift stores for inexpensive props. If you're planning on making a career out of magic, you may increase the amount of money you're willing to spend as an investment.
-
Step 2
Buy a deck of cards. Every magician needs to know how to do some card tricks. Find decks of cards at most grocery and discount stores. Also thrift shops and garage sales may carry playing cards.
-
Step 3
Go to the pet shot and buy a white rabbit. Search the newspaper or internet for local rabbit breeders. Check with friends and borrow a pet rabbit.
-
Step 4
Look in the phone book for hobby shops where you can buy magic accessories. Locate a speciality store for magicians and a selction of props for illusions.
-
Step 5
Figure out what kind of magic you're going to do. Make a list of the basics you need for magic tricks. If you're going to focus more on smaller tricks, you don't need to buy bigger props like a box to cut someone in half.
-
Step 6
Hire an assistant if you're really serious about making magic a career. Place an adverstisement in the local newspaper. Visit small theater groups and inquire about finding an assistant.
