After surviving a disaster, you want to know if you're loved ones are safe. There are many horror stories of families who were separated at a time when they needed each other most. You can avoid this by developing a family disaster plan.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Make a Family Disaster Plan

Step1
Educate your family members on the types of natural disasters that are likely to hit your geographical location.
Step2
Create a disaster plan for such emergencies. Practice your plan to insure kids will know what to do in the event of a real disaster.
Step3
Give every family member the telephone number of an out of town friend or relative to check in with in the event that they can not call home. This person can keep track of location and contact information for scattered family members lost during an emergency.

Contact Your Loved Ones

Step1
Contact the person specified in your family disaster plan to relay your status and location and to learn the location and status of others.
Step2
Register with the local Red Cross. They are good at setting up a registry to allow family members to find one another.
Step3
Register with Contact Loved Ones, a service where you can retrieve and leave messages for family. People can find each other with the information you leave for them.
