Buying a car from an eBay Motors Auction is like buying from someone who parked their vehicle in some lot and stuck a "For Sale" sign on it. You have no idea with whom you're dealing. You can get some protection with the eBay Motors Vehicle Protection promise.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do your research and choose the car you want from eBay Motors. Check to see if your vehicle is eligible for the eBay Motors Vehicle Protection. Eligible vehicles have coverage upon finalization of the purchase.

  2. Step 2

Protect yourself against buying a stolen or damaged vehicle or receiving the wrong title. The maximum reimbursement is $20,000, less a $100 processing fee. You'll find other information listed under your vehicle's category on the site.

  3. Step 3

Discuss the problems with your seller. There may have been an honest misunderstanding. If you have already paid for the vehicle and feel that fraud is an issue, contact "Square Trade," eBay's dispute resolution service. A conversation with Square Trade must occur before going to the vehicle protection plan.

  4. Step 4

Contact eBay Motors Vehicle Protection Plan representatives directly for an assessment on your complaint after all other avenues are exhausted. If the auction was within eBay's rules and you followed the above steps, there should be no problem getting the satisfaction you deserve.

Tips & Warnings
  • EBay provides this option as a good faith measure against fraud prevention. Their vehicle protection plan is not an avenue for "buyer's remorse" to kick in.
  • Use Paypal for your purchase, and you have an extra $1,000 protection added to the transaction.
  • It is best not to pay for the vehicle until you take possession. This gives you one last chance to inspect your purchase.
  • If someone offers to sell you a car and use eBay Motors Vehicle Protection Program even though you did not go through eBay, it is a scam.
