By eHow Contributing Writer

Canoe polo gradually is becoming popular wherever people enjoy water sports. You can take it up if you have the time, equipment and a large enough body of water nearby for practice.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Work on your paddling skills. You must exert total control over your canoe so that you can turn at a moment's notice. You also must be able to immediately reverse direction in all currents. Most importantly, you must be able to catch a ball.

  2. Step 2

Practice your catching skills daily. Throw a ball against a wall and catch it at different angles. You can catch with one or both hands. A dropped ball will cost your team, so spend time mastering this skill.

  3. Step 3

Join a canoe polo forum where you can find teams or clubs to join. You can also get tips on how to improve your skills.

  4. Step 4

Look around for a canoe polo team or a canoe polo club. Your local sports equipment store might also be a good place to ask about teams. Canoe polo players have to buy equipment and the salespeople may be able to direct you towards a club.
