on 1/19/2009 The ingredients do not specify what kind of oatmeal to be used. There is quick cooking, 5-minute and steel cut oats. Each has a bit of different water/oat ratio and cooking time.
Quick oats and 5 minute oats are steamed and then squished (rolled) to a certain thickness. Then put in your box or canister for sale. The quick oats are the thinest, the 5 minute variety are rolled thicker. These usually cooked at a 1 to 2 ratio of rolled oats to water (or juice/liquid*). It really depends on how thin/thick you want YOUR oatmeal.

Steel Cut oats takes the full groat (the oat seed itself) and cut them in small pieces. This type of oat uses more liquid to oat ratio. I usually do one cup of steel cut oats (also called Irish Oatmeal) to 3.5-4 Cups water. I will put water and oats in an 8-10 cup (or larger-do not skimp on size or you will have a mess to clean in your microwave) glass bowl

on 11/18/2008 Nice directions. but I was actually looking for how much water to oats ratio, so it doeasn't take forever to boil off excess water OR having to add more water to the oats and waiting for the temperature to come back up to finish the job. So, anyone out there who knows, is it 3 gallons of water to one flake of oatmeal, or was it 1 box of oats to 3 drops of water? HELP?
