How to Become an Amateur Softball Association Umpire

Becoming an Amateur Softball Association Umpire can be a very fun, interesting and rewarding pastime. It does take hard work and dedication and every year more than 42,000 umpires take the field to do what they love best. If you follow the steps below, you to can become an ASA umpire.

      Decide if you have the time to dedicate to this activity. Tournaments and games can take many hours a week and you need to be certain you can be at your assignment. Whether it be a high school game or tournament, a regional or national tournament or a world series, you need to give it your all.

      Contact the local ASA. Sign onto the Amateur Softball Association and look under the section entitled "Umpires." You can search for your local ASA organization here. You should contact them and ask what you need to do to get started being an umpire.

      Attend the umpire's school and pass the appropriate tests. All the information and dates regarding these schools and tests can also found through your local ASA organization.
