If you are looking for a unique experience, ride the trolley car in Philadelphia. Not too many cities still use the trolley; however, Philadelphia not only still uses them but also has updated them. Trolley cars are much more comfortable since they have added air conditioning and new seats.

Things You'll Need:

  • Exact change or tokens
  • Schedule
  1. Step 1

Find a route. When the trolley car was revived in 2003 after 11 years, it had fewer routes. There is a site in the resource section that will give you a listing of the trolley car routes.

  2. Step 2

Buy tokens. You must have the exact change to ride the trolley car. Therefore, most people buy tokens to use in lieu of cash. You can buy the tokens in packets, but it does not reduce the cost. You can buy a convenient one-day pass that allows eight trips. There are also discounts available to senior citizens, children, students and others.

  3. Step 3

Look over the schedule. Most trolley cars stop at every corner in their route. To be on the safe side you need to know where to catch the trolley and the time it will arrive.

  4. Step 4

Enjoy the ride as a memory you will treasure forever, as you can view parts of Philadelphia you may never see on a tour.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you check out the discounts--you may be qualified for one.
  • Buying tokens in a packet doesn't save you money.
  • Trolley tracks are nice to ride on when in a trolley, but terrible to drive over.
