How to Organize a Prom Committee

Prom is the highlight of the school year for many high school students. However, getting ready for prom can be confusing if the prom committee isn't organized. To help prepare for prom, choose a strong student leader and divide up volunteers by task. Making sure everyone knows his particular job will get everything done in time for the big night. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Select the lead organizer. This person should be a student who is organized and responsible. This person should be responsible for booking the location (if it isn't held on school property) and making sure that everyone else is doing their job. The head organizer is also the problem-solver for the rest of the committee and a liaison with the school administration.

    • 2

Appoint three or four students to act as assistant organizers, with each one heading up a different task area of the prom planning: decorations, food, invitations, music, set-up and clean-up.

    • 3

Choose someone to be in charge of decorations. They will be responsible for ordering the balloons, centerpieces, table linen and any party favors or souvenirs. They are also in charge of getting the decorations in place. This person may recruit a team of volunteers to help decorate before the prom.

    • 4

Pick a student to arrange for food and drink. Since most couples go to dinner before the prom, there is no need for a lot of food. There should be punch and a few selections of finger foods and sweets. If the prom will be a sit-down dinner, an adult supervisor should provide guidance to this student leader.

    • 5

Arrange for a group of students to be in the gym or rental hall early to set up chairs and tables. This is a great job for the boys who don't want to decorate.

    • 6

Organize a clean-up crew to stay after the prom has ended or meet the following morning to clean up.

Tips & Warnings

  • Organize student volunteers into shifts so that there will be enough helpers throughout the day.
